There is this trend going around instagram right now that’s all about having coffee with your younger self and what you would tell them.
I didn’t make it into a reel because for one, it’s way too long for a reel and secondly, it’s private and while I do think it’s great to share some things, some of this deep soul writing has a place just for me and my heart.
So, I turned it into a journal prompt for myself and what’s funny about it is, I thought I wouldn’t have much to say to myself because I don’t feel like I’ve “arrived” at where my younger self would have thought I’d be by now. But, turns out, I had a lot to say to her.
I’ll share a few thoughts I wrote to her here:
- Life is not perfect, and you’re not where you want to be yet BUT, you are living in a way that feels good to you on a soul level
- It’s okay. You are going to have a moment in time where life feels more unfair and disheartening than it ever has BUT, you are strong…
- AND this part that feels so difficult is going to be the catalyst for a lot of change in your life for the better. Who knows (except I do know), you might even start following all those silly little urges to make comedy videos.
- Those people who are projecting their insecurities onto you, you’ll have more of them. But, future you is going to know the difference between their projections and who you really are.
- Your husband, he is everything you ever dreamed he would be and so much more. His soul is the missing piece to yours that you never knew you needed. And you let him love you so well and he does. Oh yeah, he’s hot too…no really, even dimples. You hit the jackpot and he feels the same.
- You are going to start so many businesses but please do that so we can figure out what the most aligned business is for us. Turns out, it’s Human Design and Coaching (you’ll learn about that later although I wish you knew about it now) and you are going to help people the way you always have. You are going to help them show up as the confident and most authentic versions of themselves they can be and it makes your heart burst because one of the BEST things about who you are is your ability to deeply care and see people for who they want to be, who they are now, and help them fill the gap in between.
- Don’t worry, you travel a lot. We haven’t bought the villa in Italy yet but it’s coming and we still don’t plan on doing it “when we retire” because that still feels sad. We want it in the next 7 years (max). So, hopefully future us doesn’t let us down on that one. I don’t think she will.
- You are going to learn that living in the present moment feels the best.
- You will learn that you don’t need any kind of validation to do what you are meant to do or show up as your best self. You just are already.
- And last, you will learn to trust in God and the Universe on a more profound level than you ever have. It’s hard but it’s good.
So, my friend, if you have the time to write a letter to yourself, please do. I think you will realize that the person you have become would make your younger self so proud.
If you do, I’d love to chat about it in the comments.
With all my love,
Mary
